Whitefish Mountain Resort, a gem of northwestern Montana wilderness, is located on Big Mountain only eight miles outside the town of Whitefish. From ziplining to mountain biking to winter classics like skiing and snowshoeing, Whitefish Mountain Resort has 3,000 acres of land and facilities, all catered to your outdoor excitement. The resort is prepared for every season and has plenty of options to choose from whether you visit on a hot summer afternoon or the day after a powdery snowfall.
The resort got its informal start in the early 20th century, when Whitefish locals began traversing Big Mountain recreationally, forming natural ski paths and trails up and down the mountain. The Whitefish Lake Ski Club built the first official trails on the mountain in the 1930s, thanks to a permit from the U.S. Forest Service. The business enterprise that followed was a community effort, with Whitefish residents volunteering their free time to curate trails and slopes along the mountain, building a resort that locals and tourists alike could enjoy.
When you stay in the town of Whitefish, transportation is readily available to get to and from Whitefish Mountain Resort via the S.N.O.W. Bus system. This convenient bus route travels from downtown to Whitefish Mountain Resort multiple times a day, and even has a stop at The Pine Lodge on Whitefish River in the winter months. Additionally, The Pine Lodge sells lift tickets directly from our Front Desk, and offers our new Ski Van transportation for a direct commute up or down the mountain, saving you time and energy so that you can spend it on the slopes instead!
